Position Title:  Massage Therapist

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Position Reports To:              Assistant General Manager

Positions Supervised:            None


POSITION PURPOSE

Provide massage therapy to members and guests that focus on the client's needs/requests.  Inform each client of the health benefits of massage therapy.  Exhibit a pleasant, helpful attitude and positive body language that will help the client feel comfortable and encourage client retention.  Promote massage therapy within the RAC.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  • Performs massage therapy which includes:  Deep Tissue, Sport, Swedish, Aromatherapy, Prenatal or Reflexology.
  • Completes S.O.A.P notes, maintains accurate documentation and filing of client files after each visit.
  • Conducts massage consultations, recommends stretches for clients at home maintenance, and provides guidance and wellness advice to clients.
  • Maintains massage room in a neat professional manner including: stocking products and linens, refilling oils and lotions.  Replaces massage linens on table so that room is ready for next client.  Communicate with Massage Coordinator when products are low.
  • Arrives fifteen (15) minutes prior to scheduled work time and may be required to stay fifteen (15) minutes later beyond work schedule if still with client which you will be compensated.
  • Maintains and increases knowledge of massage therapy treatments by sharing technique skills with fellow massage staff during in-house instruction, and education/training classes. Promote massage therapy and interact with member clientele through the use of the massage chair during downtime.
  • Obtain all massage receipts from the Activities Desk and complete/record time sheet daily.  This information is required to be given to the Assistant General Manager by every Monday.   
  • During down time:
    1. if there is more than 1 hour, the massage therapist will provide complimentary chair massage to raise awareness of massage.
    2. the Massage Therapist may be asked to work on promotional projects, fold towels or assist at the Activities Desk.
  • Communicate with Activities Desk associates so they are aware of your location in the club at all times.
  • Communicate with the massage coordinator and Assistant General Manager any time off or vacations.
  • Protect all clients right to privacy and confidentiality at all times. Therapist may not discuss any massage clientele’s personal information with others.
  • Clients should undress and dress in private unless special circumstances require assistance by Massage Therapists.  Never expose or come in contact with the genital areas on the male or female, or the breasts of a female client.  These areas should always remain covered. 
  • The relationship and boundaries between a therapist/client must be clearly communicated and understood.  The RAC Massage Therapist has a responsibility to maintain the highest level of ethical standards.  Firm boundaries of appropriate behavior must be maintained.  If a client makes an inappropriate advance or comment, you have the right to leave the room and immediately report to the M.O.D.
  • When providing service to minors, always have a parent sign a consent form and recommend that they be physically present during the session.
  • Therapist is not allowed to solicit clients from the RAC into your home or another business to massage as this is a conflict of interest. Anyone you meet at the RAC must be massaged at the RAC.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use of hands, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Ability to occasionally travel by car for business purposes.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Required to be certified from an educational institution.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

Have computer skills.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Prefer, but not limited to one (1) year of experience.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:           High level of customer service

                                            Quality interpersonal and public relations skills

                                            Able to work well independently and as a team

                                            Very detail-oriented

                                            Must follow through to complete task through entire process

                                            High energy to work with members and guests of all ages


PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

Average Communication: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately and quickly.

Average Visual Abilities:   Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.

Average Hearing:   Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

Physical Strength:  Required to perform duties while standing for an extended period of time. Exerts up to 75 lbs. of force occasionally.


MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

Reasoning Ability:   Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization.  Able to interpret various instructions.

Language Ability:     Ability to read and proficiently speak and communicate in English with both guests as well as other RAC personnel.
