Accounts Receivable and Staff Accountant

Reports to: Controller and Director of Financial Aid
Job Summary:
Performs a variety of confidential accounting duties, primarily related to, but not limited to, student accounts. Performs all student billing/charges and communicates directly with students to both manage and clarify account status. Also performs financial period reporting related to students including verification of student employment time sheets and student tax reporting.
Performs bank deposits and reconciliation. Other duties include cross training and backup to other office staff, specifically for payroll, and other duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Manages student accounts, including but not limited to:
o Creates student charges for each semester, runs finance charges monthly and ensures all charges have been assessed for each semester.
o Accepting and properly recording student payments.
o Setting up payment plans for students in need.
o Review and post student financial aid, as applied by the Director of Financial Aid, including loans, internal scholarships, external scholarships, grants, etc.
o Manage/oversee student employment.
o Providing student overpayment data for processing of payments.
· Collaborate with peers in establishing and maintaining efficient process flows.
· Act as secondary cashier by greeting incoming traffic, accepting, and receipting monies.
· Provide backup for institutional payroll.
· Review/edit and post batches in accounting software.
· Maintain electronic and physical filing system.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and various modular financial accounting software systems.
· Intermediate ability to provide accounting reporting data as needed for constituents and clearly conversationally related the meaning of this information to constituents.
· Excellent conflict management skills, particularly with students and parents but also with all constituents.
· Interpret and apply organizational policies, laws, rules and regulations.
· Must be self-motivated team player with a professional demeanor, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
· Must have the ability to handle high volume work.
· Detail oriented and organized in work; ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
Position Requirements:
· All Finance Department information must be held in strict confidence.
· Bachelor's degree in related area and/or minimum 4 years related work experience.
Job Requirements:
· Possess 4 + years of analytical finance and general accounting experience.
· Strongly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook.
· Capability of researching discrepancies and providing problem resolutions.
· Willingness to cross-train and automate, when necessary.
