Job Summary:
Position: Director of P.E.O and Alumnae Communications
Reporting directly to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in crafting compelling content tailored to engage constituents across various platforms, including social media and email messaging. With strong writing and communication skills, the Director of Advancement Communications will play a pivotal role in guiding and supporting the Office of Institutional Advancement and actively contribute to the fundraising efforts of Cottey College. Anticipated duties involve attendance at College events, with occasional travel commitments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Create, develop, and manage communications for the Office of Institutional Advancement, actively supporting fundraising efforts.
• Maintain a consistent tone and voice in all digital and printed communications.
• Work with the Institutional Advancement team to develop and write material for the College magazine, advancement newsletters, appeals, web pages, and annual reports.
• Prepare quarterly reports for the Board of Trustees on advancement communication and fundraising progress.
• Represent the College at conventions and other events, fostering relationships that support fundraising efforts.
• Address P.E.O. inquiries regarding referrals and the admission process for future students.
• Manage the online materials portal, offering guidance to support the student referral process.
• Collaborate with the Marketing Department to enhance the College’s audience and reputation among constituents, contributing to fundraising efforts.
• Uphold confidentiality and adhere to the donor Bill of Rights and FERPA regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned, actively contributing to the overall success of Cottey College.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
• A creative mind with a willingness to contribute ideas.
• Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
• Effective time management skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office, database systems, and social media platforms. Experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge would be a plus.
• Working knowledge of email marketing and content management software.
• Proven ability to build engaging social media content, websites, and messaging, with a focus on supporting fundraising efforts.
• Effective management of multiple communication projects.
• A commitment to the Cottey College mission, recognizing the crucial role that constituent engagement and philanthropy play in the success of the institution.
Credentials and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Strategic Communications, Nonprofit Management, Creative Writing, or other related field.
• 2-4 years of experience in a communications role, preferably in higher education.
• Prior understanding of Cottey College Alumnae, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and the P.E.O. structure would be a plus, but not required.
