QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Master’s Degree or CPA license (or in pursuit is a plus)
- 2+ years of experience in municipal, not-for-profit, public, public charter, and/or private school accounting & finance.
Organizational Overview
Yellowstone Schools operates on a beautiful Third Ward campus, built in 1926, that is less than half a mile from downtown Houston. As part of its unique program, Yellowstone Academy is co-located with Yellowstone College Prep, a public charter school, serving 6th -9th grade. This innovative public/private model is the first of its kind in the state of Texas. These two schools will operate through a shared services agreement as they leverage the Academy’s 20+ years of success and expand to serve nearly 750 students in pre-K through 12th grade by 2026.
Position Overview:
The accountant will ensure that state, federal, and company policies and procedures are followed with respect to financial transactions for Yellowstone Schools (which includes two separate legal entities with separate and distinct financial environments) with ample room for growth and professional development. The accountant will join a team of other accountants that report to and work alongside the CFO to produce timely reports for Board presentation and approval.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure Chief Financial Officer and/or Accounting Managers are advised on the business affairs of the schools
- Ensure accounting transactions are executed in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and established standards of internal control
- Maintain the accuracy and timeliness of records and reports, while meeting regular and special demands for data
- Manage all hardcopy and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

- Process accounts payable
- Manage Purchasing accounts
- Inventory management
- Credit Card management
- Responsible for semi-monthly review of Paid Time Off, and benefit reconciliations
- Perform Credit Card reconciliations
- Assess and authorize all purchase orders and expense reports and manage budget by certifying availability of funds. Functions include ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Maintain appropriate certifications and training hours, as required.
- Other duties as assigned.

Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
