Yellowstone Academy

Report to:        Chief Financial Officer

Classification:  Full-time, Exempt


Remote Work Available



  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Master’s Degree or CPA license (or in pursuit is a plus)
  • 2-8 years of experience in municipal, not-for-profit, public, charter, and/or private school accounting & finance.


Yellowstone Schools Overview:

At Yellowstone, we believe every student is born with purpose and destined for success. We operate on a beautiful Third Ward campus built in 1927 that is less than half a mile from downtown Houston. As part of its unique program, Yellowstone College Prep, a public charter school that is growing to serve students in 6th-12th grade, is co-located with Yellowstone Academy, a private Christian School that services grades PK3 – 5th grade. This innovative public/private model is the first of its kind in the state of Texas. These two schools operate through a shared services agreement as we work to fulfill our strategic vision to provide a life-changing experience to 750 students in pre-K through 12th grade on one campus. Position Overview:

The Accountant will ensure that state, federal, and company policies and procedures are followed with respect to financial transactions for Yellowstone Schools (which includes two separate legal entities with separate and distinct financial environments) with ample room for growth and professional development. The Accountant will join a team of other Accountants that report to and work alongside the CFO to produce timely reports for Board presentation and approval. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Ensure Chief Financial Officer is advised on the business affairs of the schools
  • Ensure accounting transactions are executed in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and established standards of internal control
  • Maintain the accuracy and timeliness of records and reports, while meeting regular and special demands for data
  • Manage all hardcopy and computerized reports, records, and other documents required
  • Compile and Submit Revenue information to outsourced vendor
  • Responsible for semi-monthly reconciliation of Paid Time Off and benefit reconciliations
  • Manage Purchasing accounts for select departments
  • Inventory management for select departments
  • Credit Card management for select departments
  • Reconcile Credit Cards for select departments monthly
  • Prepare and Submit Credit Card information to outsourced vendor
  • Reconcile Donor Base Giving Report with Financial Software Revenue Report monthly
  • Assess and authorize all purchase orders and expense reports and manage budget by certifying availability of funds
  • Compile and Submit Accounts Payable information to outsourced vendor
  • Must be motivated and able to thrive alone to accomplish individual goals, as well as collaborate with departments to contribute and accomplish broader company goals
  • Maintain appropriate certifications and training hours, as required
  • Other duties as assigned.

Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
