R&D Design Engineer

Halfmoon, NY

Job Description: The R&D Design Engineer is responsible for innovating and designing the standard products sold by Precision Valve Automation - PVA. This position identifies market needs and ensures that the standard products are designed correctly and within customer requirements, budget, and timeframe. This position requires onsite presence in Halfmoon, NY.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops and delivers an on-time, complete, and accurate design and documentation package.
  • Updates designs for standard offerings and conducts research and development for future products offered to customers.
  • Manages product information through entire lifecycle within PVA.
  • Coordinates engineering, sales, and production departments to develop project schedules that includes a release date for sufficient manufacturing and production time.
  • Releases products within organization and ensures documentation and training is detailed and communicated effectively to other departments.
  • Conducts internal mechanical and software design reviews as part of R&D process.
  • Interprets safety codes so that equipment meets specifications on every design.
  • Coordinates with purchasing and shops upon release of new products.
  • Develops drawings, diagrams, and schematics for patent application, as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of customer information, 100% of the time.
  • Generates engineering best practices and design guide to ensure consistency.
  • Participates in meetings with potential clients to understand needs and communicate company capabilities and deliverables, as needed.
  • Reviews products on the market and brings ideas to the attention of the manager for future development.
  • May travel with sales people to discuss customer needs (average 1-2x per year).

  • Knowledge of industrial robots, machinery, electrical and fluid mechanics, electronics, and modeling/drawing software, required. SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Understanding of software structures and interfaces (HMI), ergonomics, software, and mechanical controls, required.
  • Minimum three (3)+ years of custom engineering and design required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, required.
