I. Basic Function
The Donation Recovery Specialist provides assistance and support throughout the organ/ donation process. They are primarily responsible for the operating room recovery, preservation, packaging and they assist in the allocation of organs as needed. Participates in kidney pump perfusion if applicable in the assigned region. Coordinates fly outs and imported organs.
II. Essential Functions
A. Provide assistance during local donor identification, stabilization and management of organ/tissue donors.
B. Provide safe and timely transfer of blood, tissue typing materials, organs, and tissues to the appropriate facility.
C. Prepare and deliver appropriate supplies prior to operative recovery of organs and tissues.
D. Coordinates the organ recovery process in the operating room. Providing perfusion, preservation, packaging and distribution of recovered organs/tissues for transplantation and/or research. .
E. Assist with the anatomical dissection and placement of kidneys on a preservation pump and is responsible for monitoring kidney function during perfusion
F. Responsible for delivery of kidneys on the preservation pump to the receiving transplant center ensuring proper verification of donor information and allocation
G. Receive and screen referred organ offers from distant organ procurement agencies and provide accurate communication of information to local transplant centers. Coordinates and participates with recovery teams in the distant acquisition of organs/tissues.
H. Responsible for the maintenance of procurement equipment, recovery supplies, and procurement supply room to ensure optional efficiency.
I. Other duties assigned by the Regional Managing Director or the Manager of Organ Recovery Services.

III. Qualifications
A. Knowledge

1. Completion of a Certified Scrub Technologist (CST) Certified First Assist (CFA), or other allied health training program, or equivalent experience.
2. Must have and maintain their Texas and National licensure and/or certification if applicable.
3. Must have knowledge of human anatomy & medical terminology.
B. Experience
1. Prefer four years of experience in an acute care hospital, pre-hospital/emergency care setting, or organ procurement organization.
C. Skills/Aptitudes
1. Must have strong communication, inter-personal and organizational skills.
2. Strong follow-up & attention to details a must
3. Must have a valid Texas Driver’s license.
