Certified Medical Assistant

Job Title: Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist
Reports to: Keshia Carlisle, Clinical Nurse Manager
Type: Full-time
Hours 40/week

General Description

  • General Summary:   Under supervision of a physician, follows established procedures and protocols, assists provider in conducting patient examinations, and provide routine treatments.  Obtains specimens for routine lab testing, and records results within our EHR.  Retrieves patient vital signs, past medical history, current medication list, and reason for visit.  This information must, proficiently, be documented within the EHR.  Performs routine procedures, such as: ear irrigation, injections, EKG’s, spirometry, venipuncture, finger sticks, fluoride application, urine tests, nasal and throat swabs, and immunizations.   Operates in house lab equipment for patient testing.  Sends appropriate labs to outside laboratory.  Provides compassionate care to patients.  
  • Duties: Responsible for assuring patient charts are up to date before and after each visit.  Documents accurate and current information in patient chart, along with, updating past medical history.  Obtains vital signs, height, weight, and head circumference.  Documents these findings in EHR, and recognizes inconsistent or abnormal measurements, reports these findings to provider.  Initiates well child exams, and performs the required tasks per EPSDT guidelines.  Assist with procedures offered within clinic.  Clean and sterilize instruments after procedures.  Perform EKG and spirometry testing.  Perform venipunctures, finger sticks, nasal and throat swabs, and obtain urine specimens for in-house and outside lab testing.  Open and close down the lab each day.  Assist in maintaining CLIA compliance.  Administers oral and injectable medications, as well as, immunizations.  Performs hearing and vision screens.  Multi-tasker in a fast pace environment.  Assures exam rooms are appropriately stocked, and clean.  Provides compassionate care to patients.  Perform other duties as the job role requires.  

Work Experience Requirements

  • Customer service (required)
  • Two or more years experience in medical office setting (preferred, not required)
  • Two or more years experience as a medical assistant/phlebotomist (preferred, not required)
  • Basic computer skills (required)
  • Current CPR certification (required)
  • Excellent communication skills (required)

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certified medical assistant/phlebotomist (preferred, not required)
  • Bilingual (preferred, not required)
