Lead Classroom Group Teacher

Job Description

Lead Classroom Group Teacher is a growth position within our Training & Excellence (T&E) Program housed within the Clinical Department. Classroom Teachers will learn, practice, and carry out Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) methodologies, pass competency exams and teach, model, and mentor within the field. Lead teachers will have the opportunity to receive supervision if entering into a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) training program or practicum or requires licensure supervision hours to obtain their NYS Behavior Analyst License (LBA). Lead teachers will provide support to all Behavior Technicians (BTs) partaking in the T&E program, mentor Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), and participate in Clinical Meetings and Clinical Decision making.

Duties and Responsibilities

Training & Excellence

Our Training & Excellence (T&E) program provides NYS Licensed Special Educators the ability to complete Board Certified Behavior Analyst training, supervision and practicum requirements. With over 50 out-of-classroom paid training hours, as well as opportunities for mentorship and career counseling, Lead Classroom Teachers will not only be supported by Board Certified Behavior Analysts but will be supporting and mentoring Registered Behavior Technicians and Behavior Technicians.

  • Any Lead Teachers without BCBA/LBA credentials will attend weekly training with the Director of Teaching & Learning
  • Complete the Placement Exam, to gauge competence.
  • Weekly required trainings with Director of Training & Excellence
  • Once a month, attend a required 3-hour, paid training session
  • Complete and maintain all required documentation regarding their programs and supervision hours
  • Maintain supervision groups of RBTs and BTs and support their growth in the T&E program
  • Work ethically and with integrity while adhering to the BACB Ethics Code
  • Participate in feedback sessions for the Training & Excellence Program
  • Utilize the Google Calendar and monitor work email daily
  • Paid CEU Trainings

For Students

  • Utilize behavior analytic principles and strategies consistent with the organization’s mission, vision and values
  • Create a fun, motivating experience to generate the highest level of engagement and learning for every student
  • Model how to engage students on their level; physically, emotionally and intellectually
  • Ensure that basic physiological and safety needs of the students are met
  • Create and implement evidence-based treatment plans for each child to target adaptive and self-care skills, emotional development, coping and tolerance skills, play and leisure skills, family relationships, language and communication, cognitive functioning, self-management, self-advocacy and independence, safety skills, and social relationships
  • Monitor data on program targets and utilize an online system to enter, track, and view progress
  • Facilitate and model program writing and assessments (Preference assessments, the VB-MAPP, ABLLS and FBAs)
  • Attend Student Clinics with other Related Service providers to support and aid in the generalization of skills across environments
  • Changing diapers, and also facilitate toilet training based on the needs of the student
  • Supervise and oversee the escorting of students to and from the bus or family drop off/pickup locations
  • Ensure classroom staff are completing daily health screening of students for wellness checks
  • Adhere to all HIPAA compliance guidelines regarding photographs and other sensitive information

For Classroom Team

  • Communicate with classroom team members and student families in a positive manner, referring clinical questions to the classroom teacher.
  • Respectfully collaborate with Related Service Supervisors to generalize skills across environments.
  • Reporting throughout the session on activities and progress the child makes with the classroom team and via the family communication platform.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing centers and materials
  • Assisting with toy/material rotation on a monthly basis
  • Optional: Participate in the Young Professionals Board of Directors to have a direct impact on the organization's goals and decisions (Application and review required)
  • Optional: Participate in a Community Committee (Application and review required)

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify as a Lead Group Teacher in compliance with Article 47 regulations, candidates MUST meet either of the following criteria:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field AND valid New York State Teachiing Certification in: 

  • Nursey to 6th grade 
  • Birth to 2nd grade 
  • Prekindergarten to 6th grade 
  • Students With Disabilities: Birth to 2nd grade 
  • Students With Disabilities: 1st to 6th grade
  • Special Education: Nursery or kindergarten to 12th grade

2. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field AND two years of supervised and documented relevant experience in a preschool program

3. Proposed plan for meeting the requirements of 1 or 2 within seven years AND meet additional eligibility requirements set forth by Article 47:

  • One year of “classroom experience” teaching children up to 3rd grade if the individual has a Bachelor’s degree in any other subject area
  • A plan for NYS Certification within 7 years

Related Fields of Study:

BA/MA/MS and in any one of the following areas:

  • Elementary Education
  • Nursery to 6th Grade Elementary Education
  • Special Education
  • Students With Disabilities, Birth to 2nd Grade
  • Students With Disabilities, 1st to 6th Grade
  • Child Psychology*
  • Child Development*
  • General Education*

*These fields of study are required to be accompanied by 12 credits specific to Early Childhood Education.

Plus but NOT required:

  • Existing NPI Number
  • Active BCBA/BCBA-D certification with no disciplinary sanctions who has been certified for at least five years and meets the ongoing supervision CEU requirement.
  • Completion of the 8-Hour Supervision Training as per the BACB guidelines.
  • Established history of providing high-quality supervision to trainees.

The following documents will be required and are subject to review by TICP staff before placement offer:

  • Qualifications: diplomas, certifications, and training through Aspire Registry, and Resumes
  • Three (3) References, preferably from former employers or direct reports
  • Study Plan Documents if applicable. Documentation of current attendance if not otherwise qualified, documentation for a group teacher, if not otherwise qualified. Commitment letter and transcripts.

Position Details

  • Full time position, in-person
  • Schedule:
    • Shift A: Monday - Friday7:30am - 3:30pm
    • Shift B: Monday - Friday - 10:30am - 6:30pm
    • Attendance at the Monthly Seminars from 3:30-6:30pm is required and is part of the contract hours.

Salary Range

  • BCBA/LBA & NYS Teaching License AND classroom experience - $90,000
  • NYS Teaching License with classroom experience and no experience with ABA - $80,000 (up to $89,000 depending on the amount of classroom experience or how close you are to obtaining your BCBA certification)
  • Qualify for BCC minimum requirements as stated above with classroom experience - $70,000 (up to $79,000 depending on how close you are to obtaining your NYS Teaching License OR how many years of experience with ABA)
