Title: Assistant Vice President & Controller

Reports to: Vice President for Finance and Administration
Job Summary: The Assistant Vice President & Controller is responsible for overseeing the college’s accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and external audits. This role ensures the integrity of financial systems and records, supports budget implementation and monitoring, and prepares financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The AVP & Controller also supervises the Business Office, including payroll, accounts payable, and general accounting functions, and assists the Vice President for Finance and Administration with financial planning and policy development.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise the staff accountant, accounting and payroll manager, and accounting support specialist.
- Prepare monthly account reconciliation and related journal entries.
- Review and post monthly journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
- Review other financial information used in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Maintain the college endowment unitization through the endowment management software Fundriver.
- Monitor the internal control structure, improving as necessary, and ensure compliance throughout the college.
- Coordinate the annual financial and retirement audits, along with associated returns.
- Review and monitor actual performance versus the budget.
- Forecast revenues, expenditures, and year-end balances.
- Assist in the development of special reports for use by the President’s Council, Board of Trustees, and leadership of P.E.O. International.
