HQ - Accounting Intern

Purpose:

Cadence International is an evangelical mission organization dedicated to reaching military communities with the good news of Jesus Christ. The Accounting Intern supports the ministry of Cadence by performing a variety of tasks within the Finance Department, including day-to-day accounting functions and special finance projects.  

Reports to: Accounting Manager                             

Classification: Part Time, Temporary

Hours: up to 12 hours per week

Location: Headquarters, Englewood, CO

Compensation: $19.30 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities:

Accounting Tasks

  • Work alongside the Accounting Manager to provide support for month-end closing tasks, audit preparation, and general accounting support.
  • Assist with Accounts Payable and Donor Services processes.
  • Organize and maintain financial records and documentation.
  • Help ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of database records.
  • Compile data for internal and external reporting and analysis. 

Finance Projects

  • Establish a digital system to track various accounting records.
  • Prepare organizational filings and periodic reports, such as property tax exemptions and state registrations.
  • Review and evaluate current accounting policies and procedures to provide revisions to improve accuracy and clarity.
  • Assist with implementation, monitoring, and enhancing accounting/finance systems, processes, and internal control procedures.
  • Offer input and assistance with streamlining accounting workflows and process improvement.
  • Assist with any software or service migrations, as needed. 

Mission Support and Other Duties

  • Deliver timely and friendly service and support by proactively finding answers and responding promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma required. Some college-level accounting classes preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and willingness to learn any necessary additional programs. 

  • Prior experience in a nonprofit organization, specifically a mission organization, is a plus.

  • Born again, mature Christian with an affinity for the mission and work of Cadence International.

  • Because of the distinctly Christian emphasis of Cadence’s mission work, one must sign and comply with Cadence International’s Code of Christian Conduct.

  • Must be willing to join departmental staff in periodic prayer times for the needs of the mission and to attend the weekly headquarters chapel held during work hours.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including a positive attitude, willingness to help resolve issues, and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Must be self-motivated, with high initiative, and able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Strengths in administration, multi-tasking, and organizational skills with superior attention to detail.

  • Ability to graciously re-prioritize workload as demands change throughout the day, and flexibility to meet demands of a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to exercise considerable discretion in the handling of confidential or sensitive matters.
