Purpose: Cadence International places a strong value on caring for and supporting missionaries serving on the field. Field Leaders play an essential role by providing relational support, encouragement, coaching, and leadership development for field staff under their care.
Reports to: VP for Field Ministries
Hours: Full Time Exempt Salaried
Assignment Agreement: 2-4 Years
Location: On Assigned Field
Position Appointment and Accountability:
In consultation with the Executive Leadership Team and approval by the President, the VP for Field Ministries appoints Field Leaders. Field Leaders report directly to the VP for Field Ministries. Each ministry field is currently led by two field leaders consisting of one man and one woman sharing equal organizational responsibility and authority.
Note: Cadence International missionaries are support-based. Field Leaders are missionary roles, requiring ministry to prayer and financial partners. Support must be raised in full in order to serve in this position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Care – Field Leaders develop close and meaningful relationships with field staff and their families providing care, encouragement, help, and counsel.
- Consistently understand and assess the spiritual, relational, and personal health of field staff and families and provide resources, support, counsel, and accountability towards ongoing maturity and growth.
- Coordinate with the Cadence Care Team as needed regarding field staff’s personal, spiritual, and relational health and vitality.
- Maintain consistent communication and connection with field staff.
- Conduct regular all-field virtual or in-person meetings for care, connection, coordination, and coaching.
- Pray for and with field staff and their families in a consistent and timely manner.
- Intervene and provide counsel for staff in times of difficulty and crisis.
Coach – Field Leaders provide ongoing guidance, training, and strategic input towards professionally developing field staff as ministers of the gospel and towards increasing fruitfulness and effectiveness in their ministries.
- Implement the key priorities of the Cadence Strategic Plan as appropriate and relevant to their field.
- In coordination with the VP for Field Ministries, plan and execute an annual field staff conference for the purposes of training, connection, encouragement, and professional development.
- Provide consistent ministry guidance and input through regular communication, resourcing, and annual field visits and ministry assessments.
- Provide guidance, train, and collaborate on biblical missiological principles, helping field staff grow in their effectiveness as students of the personal and spiritual needs and opportunities in their military communities, as well as the overall trends in culture and generations affecting military people and their ministries.
- Guide and coach field staff in contextualizing the gospel for their military community.
- Identify, mentor, and develop men and women on their field with the potential for greater leadership capacities and responsibilities.
Communicate – Field Leaders stand in the pivotal role between Headquarters and the field. Consistent and clear communication and representation both directions ensures the strength, unity, and health of the organization.
- Model and produce high quality, timely, and professional communication consistent with Cadence writing, brand, and design standards.
- Expect and equip field staff to abide by all Cadence writing, branding, and design standards which will exhibit professionalism to the military community, donors, and the general public.
- Ensure the regular positive and effective communication of all HR, Finance, and other policies and procedures to field staff as well as the implementation of these policies.
- Provide regular communication to the VP for Field Ministries regarding the needs, desires, and effectiveness of field staff and their ministries.
Coordinate – Field Leaders develop and maintain strategic working relationships with regional and local commands and chaplains, with fellow Field leaders, and with HQ staff and leaders.
- Develop relationships with key commanders and chaplains on their field, representing Cadence in a gracious and professional manner and ensuring a knowledge and understanding of the needs and opportunities within the region that might impact the mission of Cadence.
- Craft and maintain a field priority plan which includes potential military communities for future ministries as well as the current and future staffing needs for existing ministries.
- Recommend and approve field missionaries for Home Assignments, follow-on assignments, Career Missionary status, and other HR related decisions as deemed necessary through assessments and regular communication with staff.
- Maintain a sound financial budget for the field and oversight of individual staff budgets and ministry spending, ensuring wise stewardship of all ministry funds on their field.
Minimum Job Requirement:
- Bachelor’s Degree and 30 Hours of Bible training or proven experience and proficiency in ministry as assessed by the VP for Field Ministries.
- Must have at least two years of proven and effective ministry.
- Born again, mature Christian with an affinity for the mission and work of Cadence International.
- Because of the distinctly Christian emphasis of Cadence’s mission work, willing to sign and comply with Cadence International’s Code of Christian Conduct.
- Preferred Career Missionary status with Cadence International
- Spiritual Growth Skills – The Field Leader must demonstrate the ability to grow in their spiritual life while leading others in their spiritual development.
- Interpersonal Relational Skills – The Field Leader must demonstrate the ability to encourage and challenge others and to receive encouragement and confrontation in healthy biblical ways.
- Missiological Skills – The Field Leader must demonstrate the ability to think, plan, and act upon sound biblical missiological principles in leading missionaries to fulfilling the Cadence mission and vision.
- Leadership Delegation Skills – The Field Leader must demonstrate the ability to share their leadership responsibilities through the intentional delegation and development of other leaders.
- Communication Skills – The Field Leader must demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly to diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of standard business written communications. Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in general computer skills; Microsoft Office.
- Ability and willingness to learn and become proficient on software applications used by Cadence including specialized IT programs
- Able to efficiently handle administrative and financial tasks required by Cadence.
- Flexibility to meet demands of a dynamic work environment.
- Must possess a strong commitment to the success of everyone in the organization, respecting them, building trust, helping them learn and grow, and teaching them how to constantly improve their ability to fulfill the mission of God’s Kingdom through Cadence.
